The musical strategies of some exemplary ‘titles’ sequences in a way that illuminates the function of music in entertainment cinema

So as to see an assortment of procedures utilized, the title arrangements of four movies will be examined: from exemplary Hollywood film Casablanca and Psycho, a cutting edge Hollywood film, Edward Scissorhands, and an ongoing Russian film, Prisoner of the Mountains (Kavkazky Plennik). In non-melodic terms Casablanca, Psycho and Edward Scissorhands all present various forms of the great Hollywood procedure of utilizing a shut, independent titles arrangement. In the mean time in Prisoner of the Mountains there is an all-inclusive arrangement before the titles start, and this succession incorporates music. The accompanying focuses should be tended to concerning each film: how the music in the title grouping matches with the visuals (I. e. how the grouping chips away at its own); what sort of job the music plays; how this can be deciphered as far as its consequences for crowd desire and control; lastly how the music of the title succession identifies with that which is utilized later on, and in what setting the title music itself is utilized. In Casablanca the typical Warner Bros exhibit goes with the studio's logo at the exceptionally opening, and drum music interfaces the image to the outwardly static title arrangement which utilizes a guide of Africa as its experience. This forms into ‘oriental' music for the full symphony, utilizing a few clichis created from the western impression of the ‘orient, for example, the relentless utilization of the melodic movement tonic/driving note/leveled submediant/predominant (I. e. C, B, A-level, G) played overwhelmingly by metal and reed instruments. At the point when the credit for the writer Max Steiner shows up, the music moves and plays La Marseillaise, the French national song of devotion, however this finishes up with an intruded on rhythm as opposed to its typical flawless form. We should likewise look at the following grouping as it frames a unit with the title arrangement, utilizing both music and halfway enlivened visuals. We see another globe, this time utilized for the mapping of the physical and causal course to Casablanca, from France and different spots. Clasps of worldview ventures are superimposed onto the guide as the evacuees escape Paris and Marseilles. The music going with this follows on from the cynical idea of the interfered with rhythm of La Marseillaise, working down to low, conflicting and horrible harmonies on metal which starts to be joined by a sentimental high, serious and chromatic song for strings in octaves. At long last, as the principal scene of the film starts in a market square in Casablanca, the music comes back to oriental music, this time, probably, diegetically. The job of this succession is complex: right off the bat it sets up Casablanca as the physical and otherworldly setting for the film, relating to the topographically unmitigated utilization of maps. It additionally adds enthusiasm to an in any case static title grouping, and surely, is a montage of the melodic topics that are to be introduced in the film. The initial two topics (‘Oriental' and Marseillaise) are unequivocal to such an extent that they don't take on much logical significance in this unique setting, yet rather set up simply melodic desire, which can be used by change or by different prospects of juxtaposition with visuals. The third ‘suffering, longing' topic is less recognizable and along these lines takes significance from its unique situation and becomes related with the craving for opportunity and freedom. In this sense the topics summarize the plot: as bondage in a wild land (oriental), chained freedom (La Marseillaise and its rhythm), and sentimental human longing for opportunity. Conventionally, the nationalistic music additionally builds up the film as a ‘serious' war film just as an acting. The principle methodologies of the melodic grouping, at that point, are clear: to present the primary melodic topics such that makes the presentation justifiable and builds up its classification. By its inclination the music likewise controls the crowd into feeling the setting to be expelled from their own settings by the way that the oriental music is fascinating in a Romantic orientalist sense as opposed to from a Moroccan perspective, building up the film as a western work. The way where the title music impacts the remainder of the film is commonly simple to detail. Not at all like the way wherein As Time Goes By is utilized in a multiplying way, the events of the title subjects are utilized to help us to remember their unique or inferred settings and implications. The Marseillaise topic is utilized as an image of France (for the flashback grouping) yet more for the most part as a marker of the achievement or disappointment of vision and the Allies in its fight against pessimism and Fascism: its general development is from the interference of the titles to the main full rhythm in the last scene as Louis at long last yields to nationalism by discarding the Vichy water. Oriental music is utilized all the more barely as the setting has been built up, however it is utilized diegetically in the Blue Parrot scenes to recognize it from the more unattractive and American Rick's (‘Cafi Americain'). Consequently a portion of the title music was genuinely initial and different parts were to be utilized for future reference. The way that As Time Goes By was not utilized shows that it didn't endeavor a full melodic amassing of subjects yet focused on those important to comprehend the main scene. The title arrangement of Psycho is more shut and independent than that of Casablanca because of the way wherein the music of the titles is isolated †both by quietness and by change of state of mind †from the initial scene. The succession is additionally unquestionably more outwardly spellbinding because of the pushing flat lines that shoot over the screen and twist the titles themselves, coming full circle in a vertical gathering of upwards and downwards-moving lines and a discharge. In contrast to Casablanca there is no part of account or recorded setting, but instead the building up of a state of mind, as the lines propose excited movement, brutality, parting and afterward last kicking the bucket association, as the lines meet and fall away. The music, in the interim, utilizes three essential surfaces in progression, which are all connected by the innovator language and string scoring of Herrmann's score. The first is a driving ‘motor' mood of twofold halted cacophonies in the custom of The Rite of Spring, which creates by superimposing variations of an essential cell onto itself and therefore growing in volume and surface. The second is this musical thought as a backup to a taking off violin topic which is as yet not so much Romantic in character due its constant crotchet movement. Ostinati are in this way the way in to the arrangement. The third surface is the ‘sharp' cadenced thought utilized by littler segments of strings in upwards arrangements, diminishing with the visual lines, and arriving at an amazingly high tessitura. The music stops and delays before the initial scene starts with moderate feebly conflicting sliding harmonies in the style of Debussy. ‘The genuine capacity of a primary title, obviously, ought to be to set the beat of what is to follow†¦ I am persuaded, as is Hitchcock, that after the principle titles you realize that something horrendous must occur. The fundamental title succession lets you know in this way, and that is its capacity: to set the show. You needn't bother with cymbal crashes or records that never sell'. 1 Along these lines Bernard Herrmann the two expresses the particular methodology of the melodic signal that goes with the title arrangement in Psycho and proposes a general hypothesis of the capacity of titles successions. He likewise legitimizes his decision of a string symphony for such sensational music, and in different spots compares the string sound to Hitchcock's chronologically misguided monochrome. The procedure, at that point, is to summarize the pith of the film. That embodiment is without a doubt the astonishing ‘primitive' (in the primitivist feeling of Stravinsky) viciousness that depicts the title word, and not the slightest bit puts things in place for that which promptly follows. The music is wildly pioneer for a film crowd yet at the same time inside their seeing so that, alongside the visuals and the word ‘psycho', the fundamental component of the titles builds up itself as particularly barbaric and brutal. Similarly as the straight lines entering the screen and the titles can be deciphered as anticipating the movement of wounding and furthermore the split character of Bates, the music is ‘stabbing' in its harmonies and finishes ‘screaming' as Marion will do. The frightfulness sort is along these lines demonstrated, yet the music's stubborn force indicates the fanatically mental nature of Hitchcock's specialty. The impact of this titles music on the remainder of the film is unpretentious. The main scene is altogether expelled from it by mind-set, if not totally by melodic language, a component that binds together the whole score and film. The first run through the titles music is reused is when Marion understands that her supervisor has seen her driving her vehicle after she had revealed to him that she was going straight home to bed. The alarm she endures, and the exertion with which she stifles it so as to drive a grin at her chief, appear to start the arrival of the rough twofold halted ostinati of the titles. Here there is an importance appended to a state of mind which we comprehend to be the quintessence of the film: the music is here and there connected to the Marion's subjectivity and furthermore the tenacious innovation of the vehicle. Marion is demonstrated to be a transgressive lady, and this raises the desire that Marion herself might be the psycho: she has a cerebral pain; she hears voices in her mind; she has taken cash; she drives †a manly diversion in many movies; and as needs be her trepidation is communicated not through Romantic scherzo music yet by this ghastliness music. This desire is, obviously, totally bogus. In the interim the unequivocal violin topic of the titles is utilized to fill the screen similarly as Marion's face does as we watch her viewing the street, adding up to an invalidation of any hesitance we may have towards voyeurism. The most impressive impact the titles music has over the film is its different methods of introducing ostinati. We l

“We Complete Each Other in the Nastiest, Ugliest Way Possible” The Incorporation of Flawed Marriage in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, The Great Gatsby, and Gone Girl - Literature Essay Samples

Marriage will always have its share of imperfections, subtle and explicit, but the espoused in Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, and Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl suffer from a bundle of particularly damaging marital complications. While their imperfection as couples arise in similar manifestations, the effects their dysfunctionalities and desires for dominance bring upon the surrounding world are the differentiating factors. From simplistic cheating on one spouse to the promised demolishment of the other, each text exemplifies a set of matrimonial struggles and identifies the consequences of each. Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, The Great Gatsby, and Gone Girl illustrate the theme of how imperfect marriage results in a discontented atmosphere and a struggle for superiority, which develops into a series of devastating repercussions that affect not only the couple, but also the characters they are inv olved with. The imperfectness of Martha and George’s relationship in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? stems from a combination of marital dissatisfaction and a desire for supremacy from both partners. The bickering between these two characters ensues from the beginning of the very first scene, as Martha demands her husband to prepare her a beverage while crudely criticizing his laziness (Albee 3-5). This not only firmly establishes Martha’s high perception of herself in the marriage, but also reveals a deep, underlying bitterness that illustrates the rift between them. Only moments after their guests, Nick and Honey arrive, Martha displays her dissatisfaction with George’s inability to progress in his profession by saying, â€Å"somebodys going to take over the history department, someday, and it ain’t gonna be Georgie boy† (Albee 34). This exemplifies how effectively Martha is able to diminish George, and additionally shows his difficulty in gaining powe r in both his line of work and over his wife. As their bickering grows more incessant and prevalent, George physically assaults his wife and begins verbally tormenting her about the death of their imaginary child, which she takes extreme offense to (Albee 137-140). This affirms the â€Å"undeviating pattern of recrimination and one-upmanship† that marks their union (Luere 51), and shows Martha’s ultimate dissatisfaction at George abruptly dragging her out of her idealistic fantasy that had been forged over several years of imperfect marriage. A similar struggle for superiority between Nick and Amy, the espoused couple in Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl ensues, but their marital imperfections are more heavily based on their dissatisfactions with one another. Upon meeting each other for the first time, both Nick and Amy wore masks of understanding and acceptance, but they â€Å"weren’t [themselves] when [they] fell in love, and when [they] became [themselves] surprise! [they] were poison† (Flynn 277). After five years of watching Nick gradually grow away from her and sustaining a lenient persona with him, Amy made the decision to turn to a stricter and more serious approach to save her floundering marriage. Nevertheless, the revelation of her true personality inadvertently draws out Nick’s and increases his dissatisfaction, which drives him to cheat on his wife with one of his former students (Flynn 256). Amy catches her husband in the act however, and subsequently chooses to embark on a meticulously evil campaign with the sole purpose of ending Nick’s life, which not only highlights a stark contrast to George’s blank, quiet reaction to Martha’s affair of similar nature, but also affirms Amy’s power in her relationship. After molding her husband into the villain she needed him to be, Nick attempts to expose his wife for her wicked lies, but relinquishes his intentions after Amy threatens him with aborting their child with the the hope that he learns to â€Å"love her unconditionally. Under all [her] conditions† (Flynn 425). This demonstrates the unhealthy amount of control Amy exerts over Nick, and though there was a short struggle for superiority, she planned everything in a manner that locked her husband into an inescapable marital misery. Flawed marriage exists differently in The Great Gatsby; Daisy and Tom Buchanan’s wealth-based relationship lacks a passionate love that only offers them only an empty, materialized version of happiness which imperfectly binds the two together. In the first chapter, Daisy exclaims â€Å"I’m p-paralyzed with happiness† upon meeting Nick (Fitzgerald 9). Taken deeper than face value, this shows how Daisy is trapped into a relationship that is technically perfect with money and station, but lacks enough adequate passion to amass any actual happiness. Like Nick in Gone Girl, Tom cheats on Daisy with his mistress to make up for the dissatisfaction he feels in his marriage with Daisy (Fitzgerald 15). Unlike Amy however, Daisy merely resents the situation in silence; she does not lash out, nor does she plan to leave Tom, she simply accepts it, which further perpetuates her own dissatisfaction with the marriage in addition to her inability to escape its promises of wealth and status. Daisy made the decision to marry out of material worth, and in doing so, she has allowed herself to be â€Å"shaped forever by Tom’s money,† but soon discovers that â€Å"Tom’s world is hopelessly corrupt† (Person 253). This exemplifies how in marrying Tom, she was caught and entrapped in his shadow, forsaking her own individuality in exchange for the fulfillment of her tangible desires. Every iteration of imperfect marriage has consequences of varying degrees; the constant battle for marital dominance between Martha and George in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? eventually results in the unraveling and revealing of the imperfections in Nick and Honey’s own relationship. After hours of absorbing the constant bickering between his hosts and with his wife out of the room, Nick reveals that he married Honey merely because of a hysterical pregnancy and a vast wealth (Albee 105). Like Daisy’s marriage to Tom, there was no actual love involved, rather there was a tangible means that allured them to their respective spouses in both cases, with money being a common denominator for each; at the beginning of the play, Nick and Honey’s relationship stood in contrast to the major imperfections of George and Martha’s, but as Nick becomes more absorbed with his counter-couple, he discloses more information that parallelizes their relationships. On ce George begins to physically assault Martha, Nick attempts to intervene, which results in George telling an allegorical account of Nick’s reasoning for marrying Honey, who, although intoxicated, becomes distraught once she pieces the narrative together (Albee 148). This shows more of a collapse in their already-severed marriage, and gives way for it to unravel further. Martha eventually seduces Nick with very little effort, despite being described asâ€Å"rendered biologically impotent by Honey† (Alder 68), and proceeds with an affair committed in direct view of her husband (Albee 162). With this act of adultery, Martha’s work, a cry for attention from George, has consequently made Nick’s relationship with Honey meaningless; his character is the very opposite of who he was to begin the play. Nick and Amy’s matrimonial struggles created a chaotic short-term world for the family on the latter’s side, while creating everlasting despair for the former’s. Amy’s fake death was done so without her family’s concern in mind, but her parents in particular endured a period of unnecessarily intense distress (Flynn 120). Any desire Amy was harboring to take her family into account was immediately suppressed by her desire to address her imperfect marriage on the largest scale possible. Once Nick was securely fixed in Amy’s grip, his tear-ridden sister, Margo, distraughtly pledged to stand by his side against Amy (Flynn 415). Though she attempted to assist Nick in exposing Amy, she was completely aware that her brother would forever be held captive by his psychotically imperfect bride. Towards the end of the novel, Amy threatened to abort the child or raise it to view Nick as the evil monstrosity that she did, if he refused to comply with her d emands (Flynn 425). Nick’s childhood was marked by an abusive and neglectful father, and he promised himself that he would not allow the faults of his marriage to deprive him of fixing his father’s mistakes. Like Nick, Daisy was entrapped in an unfulfilling marriage, which provided for an unnecessary struggle for not only the bride to achieve true, passionate love, but Jay Gatsby as well. Jordan Baker, Nick Carraway’s partner, tells the story of Daisy’s relationship to Gatsby, and that, â€Å"despite the $350,000 string of pearls, () when Daisy receives a letter from Gatsby the night before the wedding, she [was] prepared to call the whole thing off† (Person 255). Gatsby harbors an appeal that Tom cannot match, yet she chooses to satisfy only conventional happiness. Gatsby and Daisy are incredibly fitting for each other (Person 255), but Tom’s wealth and her desire for more blinds and prevents her from ever being able to acknowledge Gatsby in the way that he acknowledges her. The marriages in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Gone Girl, and The Great Gatsby suffer from a number of imperfections that establish destructive consequences for the characters they are surrounded by. Regardless of how minor their flaws may be, most of the partners in these corrupt couples are beyond miserable, and the anguish they spread across the world around them creates circumstances as corrupt and tragic as they are themselves. Though they are imperfect, they are all permanently bound; whether they thrive off their spouse or are caught in the others shadow, there is an underlying quality that unifies them together eternally.

Senator Rand Paul Plans to Sue the President by Charlie Savage Article

Essays on Senator Rand Paul Plans to Sue the President by Charlie Savage Article The paper "Senator Rand Paul Plans to Sue the President by Charlie Savage" is a delightful example of an article on politics. Senator Rand feature as one of the latest politicians to join an increasing crowd of Tea Party activists in opposition to calling surveillance programs by the US federal governmental agencies. The call surveillance program, which was brought into effect by the Foreign Intelligence Court, is a program that collects phone-call records in America. The leading governmental actors involved in implementing the program are the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Both actors play a significant role in conducting national and international intelligence collection as a means of securing America from domestic and external acts of aggression and terrorism.   Apart from the two agencies mentioned above, there are other non-governmental stakeholders including the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court. This court comprises of a 15-judge bench mandated to handle cases revolving around international intelligence programs. In 2006, this non-governmental actor authorized the use of Call Surveillance by the American federal government. Based on the article, it is undeniable that the senator’s case falls under the larger issue of freedom restriction and extra-judicial killings. Similar to Rand’s case, all other stakeholders making the increasing plaintiffs team are concerned about the legality of conducting targeted drone killings, especially when call surveillance features as the basis of justifying such actions.Conventionally, every story contains multiple sides. The plaintiff opposing implementation of call surveillance program claims that the federal government is stepping out of its constitutional mandates. Rand Paul argues t hat the program is unconstitutional and violates certain clauses of the laws, especially the Fourth Amendment. On the contrary, the defendant, in this case, Obama’s administration, claims that the program is legal based on the previous ruling by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court. With respect to the stages of policy processes, the call surveillance program is currently in the implementation step. This is based on the fact that the FBI and NSA are currently using the program in conducting its investigations, both at domestic and international levels. The Justice Department has already issued orders directing phone companies to record all phone calls. After reading the news article, I am of the opinion that the call surveillance program violates the fundamental rights of American citizens. The fact that the Justice Department has appealed the earlier ruling by the Supreme Court indicates that recording of phone calls lies contrary to certain inherent amendments in the American constitution. In this regard, it is undeniable that there are no missing facts about the case because all plaintiffs are presenting their arguments from similar perspectives.

An example, baroque music sounds a certain way because of the types of instruments was available in that time. On the baroque period Johann Sebastian Bach composed baroque music. Many musician and researchers called Bach as the father of gold standard music. Bach was not only prolific composer, but his compositions become a sort of a gold standard for later composers. Even in the present students of compositions look to Bachs music as a model.Bach was extremely inventive and he was especially great at writing music for multiple instruments or voices and it all mysteriously blends beautifully. Today now we can make music with the help of different types of machines easily. We dont have to write down music on the paper. But a classical music writer or composer wrote down every notes, pitches even though everything. Different writer for their personality wrote down their music In different way. Classical music is full of regulation. Its a balance of perfection. All the classical music motions are the emotion of the writer. So we can say that classical music is expressing someones own depict feeling. In the classical period, Mozart, Beethoven and Hayden are considered to be the giant in the classical music. In 19th century the Nor changed very rapidly. The role of music also changed dramatically. Romanticism shifted away from spirituality and toward the individual and music from this time was all about complexity of human emotion. In the 20th century composers like Debussy, Berg and Stravinsky were trying to do something different than what ad traditionally been done. They wrote music that was guided by different ideas. Many 20th century composers turned from traditions and were not looking to make the listeners happy. They want to be challenging and difficult to listen to. Since then classical music blasted into so may styles. Classical music is still in the present Nor because of its highly versatile and adoptable. Classical music we have today updated many many times since it was written. It is truly amazing that people all over the world find beauty in classical music.

Rasputin The Man, The Mystery Essays - Grigori Rasputin

Rasputin: The Man, The Mystery Rasputin: The Man, The Mystery Introduction Grigory Yefimovich Rasputin is known as the Siberian Mystic Healer, whose life has been retold numerous of times and almost each time it is told it is retold in a different way. Since Rasputin lived in a civilization not that advanced, little is know of his first forty years of life. So most information on the man are normally from stories families have passed on. Some say he is a holy monk with great powers, on the other hand he may be known as a phony with a false connection to God. The Beginning Rasputin was born between 1864 and 1865 in his own home of Pokrovskoe. It is now known as Tiumen' Oblast. It is located in Siberia on the Toura River. This was a small city located near the Ural Mountains. At the center of the village stood a large white church with a guilded dome, which was a symbol of Russia's strong religious background. At the age of eighteen Rasputin went through a religious transition. He eventually went to the monastery at Verkhoture. At this place he became aquatinted to the Khlysty sect. After spending some time at this monastery he did not become a monk. When he came to this monastery he had no intentions of becoming a monk. But this even eventually leads to fame and power for Rasputin. At the age of nineteen, Rasputin returned to his home in Pokrovskoe. There he fell in love and married Praskovia Fyodorovna. Together the two had three children. They had Dimitri in 1897, Maria in 1898, and Varvara in 1900. Marriage wasn't enough to keep Rasputin in one place. He continued to wander to places of religious significance suck as Mt. Athos, Greece, and Jerusalem. He was a self-proclaimed holy man. He had the power to heal the sick and the power to predict the future. His fame grew greatly. Soon people traveled from long distances in search of his well heard about abilities and insight. For Rasputin's help, people would repay him with food, presents, and money. Rasputin has had no long period of religious or spiritual training. He also had very limited education so he was left illiterate. This made his theatrical abilities become very useful. One day while Rasputin was plowing in the fields he had a revelation. The story states that a Heavenly Mother touched him. She told him of young Aleksei, the tsarevich and she instructed him to appear at the boy's side to stop his bleeding. His bleeding was a result of his hemophilia. He made his initial move towards St. Petersburg in1902, when he visited the city of Kazan near the Volga River. After this trip he had a rapidly growing group of disciples and acquaintances in the upper class, and he was known as a man of God. The City of St. Petersburg Rasputin arrived in St. Petersburg at a time when church leaders were really vulnerable. They wanted people with religious influence, and who had power over the people. Rasputin was both an ordinary peasant ? simple, forceful, and direct ? while at the same time he possessed the power to astonish people with his healing powers and his insight into the future. People in the city had different views on the man. One was that he was a very holy man who possessed great powers. The other is that he was just a cynical, and that he used religion to mask his drive for sex, money, and power. Sex Life Rasputin had a very active sex life. He was reported to hold orgies in the basement of his house at the same time he lived with his wife around 1900. Later, after Rasputin had a rise to fame he attracted a large crowd of female followers. Many of the pictures of Rasputin are with him surrounded by women. There are reports of Rasputin raping women. These reports are untrue because Rasputin really didn't have to rape the to get them into bed. All of these activities did not conflict with Rasputin's religious beliefs. He did not particularly care for the orthodox religion. He was a member of the Khlisti sect. Followers of the Khlisti sect believed that all of the desires of the man should be fulfilled, and man of its members held orgies to fulfill their needs. Some people claim that Rasputin thought that he vitally derived from having sex. There are reports of Rasputin having sex with the tsarina, but the are totally false. The Romanovs Rasputin arrived in St. Petersburg in 1905 and he was not invited

How to Create Amazing Content Upgrades for Your Blog - CoSchedule

How to Create Amazing Content Upgrades for Your Blog If you know anything about online marketing, you are aware of the power of email. After all, email has a 3800% ROI. Yes, email is that  powerful. But in order to use email to grow your business, you first need to have an email list. And to get one, you need to acquire subscribers. There are many tactics you can use to get more subscribers for your email list, but theres one that has been the darling of the online marketing world for the past few years. Im talking about content upgrades. If you dont know what they are, I will explain you everything you need to know about them. Lets get started. How to Create Amazing Content Upgrades for Your BlogWhat Content Upgrades Really Are A content upgrade is any kind of extra content that your blog's visitors can get access to in exchange for their email address. In a way, they resemble to lead magnets, in the sense you send them something for their email address. But what sets them apart is what makes content upgrades so effective. First of all, a content upgrade needs to be relevant  to the content piece that visitors are already consuming. Then, they need to add extra value  to the reader for free. Content upgrades need to add extra value to the readerFor example, the content upgrade you can find at the bottom of this article, a checklist with everything you will have learned, was made just for this article. On the contrary, if I had created a highly detailed and actionable yet unrelated lead magnet, it wouldn't have the same impact on you. You may not be as enticed to download it compared to the lead magnet because it may not be relevant to you. The key of a content upgrade, however, isn't just to let a visitor download something related to an article. In the case of this article, I could have offered you a resource list with related articles to this one. That could work because it's related to this article. But would it add extra value to you? Probably not. I could easily link to those articles and that would be it. What matters the most, and what makes people want to download content upgrades so much, is that they add a lot of extra value to the article, and most importantly, to the reader. Content upgrades are so hot right because for one reason: they work. Let me show you some examples of famous people that have used content upgrades to grow their businesses: Brian Dean from Backlinko  increased his conversion rate from 0.54%. to 4.82%. Clay Collins, co-founder of LeadPages, said that content upgrades  were the number one factor  in growing their email list. James Scherrer from Wishpond, found content upgrades convert  their visitors 575% better  compared to the articles that don't feature one. One company that uses content upgrades, not surprisingly, is , the company that hosts this same blog. I can't speak for their results, but I can imagine given the amazing job they are doing with their content marketing and promotion, and the relevancy of their offers, they must be doing great. For example, in one of their most recent articles, as soon as you start scrolling down they offer you a "template bundle" with information that is related and expands the idea of the article. I don't know about you, but downloading a bundle of templates sounds really good. This is how uses content upgrades, and they do it great. Now you know what they are and well they work, I will show you how you can create one to start getting these same results. Recommended Reading: 113 Content Types to Organize With Your Marketing Calendar How to Create Content Upgrades for Your Blog Step #1: Define the Problem Your Content Is Solving As you already know by now, content upgrades have to be relevant to your visitors' problems. As a consequence, before you create your content upgrades, you need to make sure you know what these problems are. You may think  you know, but you need to be 100% sure to be able to improve your conversion rate and make your visitors happy. In order to find your visitors' problems, you need to ask yourself a few questions that will help you dig deeper on the problem at hand: What is the content piece about? What is the audience? What problem is your content trying to solve? What are you trying to teach them? What can you  teach them? Let's take this article as an example. The answer to each question in the order they were asked would be: This article is about what content upgrades are and how to use them to get more email subscribers. The audience is made up of bloggers, content marketers, and marketing managers that are trying to grow their email list. Your problem is you want to grow your email but you can't or don't know. You may also want to grow it faster than you currently are. I'm trying to teach you how to grow your email list with a technique called content upgrades. I can teach you why they are so powerful because I have case studies to show, and also how to implement them because I have done it many times in the past. As you can see, all these questions put in evidence the problem this article is solving. This gives me a good idea of what you are trying to accomplish by reading this article, and how I can help you solving it. But most importantly, it gives me a better idea of how I can deliver extra value through the content upgrade. Creating content upgrades? Ask, "How can I deliver extra value?Step #2: Develop the Content Piece In this step, you only need to do what you normally would: you create your content. Since you already know the problem you are trying to solve, you only need to deliver that solution within your content piece. In the case of this article, it took me over 2k words to deliver all the value I could to help you solve your problem: growing your email list. Now, it's time to see how we can expand this value through the content upgrade. Step #3: Expand the Value You may know what problems your audience have, and you have already created the solution to that problem in the form of an article. Now it's time to expand on its value. First of all, remember there's a finite amount of problems you can solve for your audience, mainly because your audience is (and should be) finite as well. If you have ever created buyer personas for your blog, you know you need to target your content  towards a small group of people with a clear set of problems. With that said, you need to ask yourself, how will overdeliver  on your value? Just giving them a PDF without adding anything extra won't make much of a difference on your visitors' life. Always focus on adding more value, so it's a no-brainer for your visitors to download your content upgrade. The easiest way to expand on the value of your content piece is by taking the biggest lessons and insights, and make them better. There are plenty of ways you can do that: Expand on the insight Make it more actionable Make it easier to understand Show a step-by-step process of how you can implement it Show pictures of how it's done Show videos of how it's done Provide templates Provide transcriptions Provide a mind map with all the insights or concepts Create a graphic explaining them These ideas will help you provide the additional value your visitors are looking for, and what will make them want to download your content upgrade. Recommended Reading: The 6 Types of Social Media Content That Will Give You the Greatest Value Step #4: Define the Type of Content Upgrade Before we move on to the creation of the content upgrade, which is the one that most people focus on first, you need to define what kind of content upgrade you will create. Here's the thing, there are many types of content upgrades you can use. There's no right or wrong content upgrade per se, as it depends on your content piece, your style, and the value you are giving away. The most common ones are: Article in PDF Audio version Cheat sheet Checklist Resource list Templates Transcription Video Worksheets My favorite one is the checklist, as it takes a whole article, and condenses its value in a few pages. Not only that, but they are also action-focused. I've personally found they work better than the other ones as well. Still, you should try a few types and see which one works better for you. If you are still wondering what these different types of content upgrades look like, here there are some examples that will hopefully inspire you: Optin Monster Type: Cheat Sheat Article: 700+ Power Words That Will Boost Your Conversions Value: Get the each of the 700 words in one simple list, organized by type. Video Fruit Type: Video training Article: Expanded Guest Post: How to 100x the effectiveness of your next guest post Value: See a video screencast with Bryan Harris implementing the steps mentioned in the article to expand the value of the guest posts. Recommended Reading: How to Generate and Nurture Leads With Brittany Berger from Mention Step #5: Create Content Upgrade Now that you have everything in place, it's time to (finally!) create your content upgrade. Here's when you want to take some time to make sure you make your content upgrade as awesome as possible. After all, if you are giving away a lot of extra value, you can't do it while you are multitasking or in between calls. When creating your content upgrade, there are a few different roads you can take, from the best and most expensive to the cheapest (and probably worst quality). Hire a Designer This is probably the best way to go. Unless you are a designer yourself, you don't have the skills nor time to create a good-looking content upgrade. However, if you are going to hire a designer, make sure to get a good one. Remember that you always get what you pay for. If you have a designer in-house, then this is a no-brainer for you. But if you don't, it may end up being a bit expensive for you. Still, it may be worth the investment. If you are going to hire a designer, make sure to get a good one.Two companies that may help you create and design a high-quality content upgrade are Design Pickle  and Pug Shop Design. They offer design services for a flat free and at a good price. Use Beacon One tool that was created just to create content upgrades and lead magnets is called Beacon. It's probably one of the best-hidden marketing tools out there, so I highly recommend you take a look at it. It's a bit buggy, but it does its job at a good price. It has everything you need for any kind of content upgrade you want to create. They let you import your content, pick a template, customize it, and once you have it finished, you only need to click "Save" and "Export PDF" and you are done. If you end up downloading my content upgrade at the bottom of the article, you will see how their content upgrades look like. Use Canva Canva  is like Photoshop for amateurs (like me). You can make some pretty neat designs, and if you are creative enough, you may end up with a cool simple design. This is best for small checklists and the like, not for long or complex ones. Do It Yourself You can always fall into the common DIY trend and try to do something with Word, Pages, iBooks Author or Photoshop. Depending on your skills, this may be a good idea or not. If you are like me, it's probably not. I used iBooks Authorfor a while, and it worked pretty well. But they didn't look very professional, so I stopped using it once I started with Beacon. You can still use these tools for simple resource lists and PDF versions, not for checklists and worksheets, or any other more complex kind of content upgrade. Recommended Reading: How to Create an E-Book and Publish it on Amazon KDP Step #6: Create Landing Page If you remember what I said in the beginning, you give out content upgrades in exchange for someone else's email. But where do you make this exchange? It's not that your visitors will send you a postcard with their email address so you can add them to your list in 3 to 5 business days. That's a bit old-fashioned, don't you think? You need to do it in a convenient and seamless way. That's what landing pages are for. You create a page just for people to visit, put their email information, and download the content upgrade. My favorite tool to do this is by far LeadPages. You only need to pick a template, put the copy where it belongs, add your content upgrade, create a simple autoresponder email sequence, and publish it. This is how you do it: First, open an account with them. They don't have a free trial, rather they offer a 30-day money back guarantee. Either way, I highly recommend you spend the money on their tool, as it's one of the best and most fundamental pieces of any online marketing campaign. Once you have opened your account, you will be taken to My Page, which is kind of a dashboard for your account. Before creating the LeadPage, we need to add the content upgrade. To do that, click on your username on the right, and click "Lead Magnets". Click on "Create New Lead Magnet" button on the right. Then, give your lead magnet a name, upload it, choose a sender email and name. Finally, add a simple message that the recipients of the email will see when they get the content upgrade on their email account. Don't overcomplicate this, because you can change it later. Once you are done with this, go back to the LeadPages page and click on the "Create New Page" button. Then, pick any of the dozens of free templates they show you. Filter by "Opt In" and sort by "Highest Converting". Pick one of the first ones you see. For the sake of this example, I will use this article to create the landing page. As you can see below, I simply added the name of this article in the landing page's title, and nothing else. Before clicking the "Publish" button, we need to integrate the content upgrade. To do so, click the CTA button and then the little link icon that shows up below it. Then, click the "View/Edit" button as you can see below. Then, click once again the big CTA button, and when the "Edit Your Form" sidebar shows up to your left, click the "Follow-up" tab. In there, below the "Add a File", choose the content upgrade you previously uploaded. Then, click "Save Close Form". Then I clicked "Publish". Just remember people are already sold to your content upgrade, so you don't have to overcomplicate this. Look at my landing page below and you will see. It's uber-minimalistic. Just the name of the article, the download button, and nothing more. Just remember people are already sold to your content upgrade, so you don't have to overcomplicate this. Look at my landing page below and you will see. It's uber-minimalistic. Just the name of the article, the download button, and nothing more. Step #7: Promote Within Your Post Now it's time to put the content upgrade where it belongs: in your articles. You need to make sure people know there's something valuable waiting for them. Otherwise, they will most likely ignore it when they see it. You have a few options to do so. Create a Knowledge Gap This is something I learned from Bryan Harris. He recommends opening what he calls a "knowledge gap", like the one you found at the intro of this article, and then close it at the end, as you can see below. This creates a "gap" in the mind of your visitors that makes them want to scroll down and see what's the article about, and how they can get that extra value. Add Banners and Slide-Ins Another way is to add a static banner or a slide-in within your article so people "bump" into it as they read. This is what usually does, as I showed you before. Put It at the End (and Hope for the Best) This is what many people (or most?) do. They just put the content upgrade at the end with just a link, and hope people will find it. Apparently, these people think since they already took the time to create the content, they don't have the time to actually promote it correctly. Don't make this mistake. Make sure everyone finds and click on the link that leads to the content upgrade. Using the awesome Pareto Principle, 80% of your results will come from 20% of your time. This is your 20%, so make sure you use it right. Promote your content upgrade. Grow your list.

Onsite Bullying Vs. Cyberbullying Research Paper

Onsite Bullying Vs. Cyberbullying - Research Paper Example In this regard, process involving such violent or unethical acts that cause harm or embarrassment to other person is referred as bullying (Macfarlane & McPherson, pp.10-15). It has been an observation that gender, religion, social background, physical appearance, and culture are some of the common aspects that become the reason of bullying for strong individuals resulting in usage of verbal and non-verbal pressures by such individuals. Bullying is not a very simple phenomenon, as it exists in different types and forms that make it easier to handle and prevent. Some of the most common types and forms of bullying are physical bullying, verbal bullying, on-site bullying, and cyber-bullying. For instance, any bullying that results in a physical injury or harm is considered as physical bullying, whereas, any act of bullying that involves passing of verbal comments that cause embarrassment and/or harassment comes under verbal bullying. This form usually involves comments related to physica l appearances, color, creed, or race of a person, as well as socio-economic status of the individuals. Although bullying occurs in almost all the social settings where individuals interact with one another, however, schools are the most common places where bullying occurs in all its forms, and thus, students are the easiest preys that become the targets for bullies in the schools while other students witness the incidents as bystanders (McGraw, pp. 9-12). Particularly, this paper will include discussion on two types of bullying that are on-site bullying and cyber bullying. Discussion Analysis of studies has identified bullying as a very devastating issue that affects thousands of students every year globally. For instance, in the year 2009, bullying affected approximately six hundred thousand students in different parts of the world, and â€Å"American schools alone have approximately 2.1 million bullies and 2.7 million students, who are their victims† (Rooney, pp. 171). Acco rding to Mattern (pg. 165), 56% of students in schools admit that they have observed someone bullying an individual in their schools. Moreover, studies have indicated that bullying has become so common that in every eight minutes, a child suffers from the acts of bullying at elementary level that results in adverse effects on his/her life (Lines, pp. 19-20). Unfortunately, these statistics include only those children and/or students that report the acts of bullying to their parents, siblings, or school management, and educators believe that a large number is still missing due to non-reporting of bullying in schools (McGraw, pp. 39-43). All these statistics include all forms of bullying; however, on-site bullying dominates in these reports. Particularly, â€Å"on-site bullying usually happens in classrooms, hallways, playground, bathrooms, and school buses. The bullies start with verbal harassment such as teasing before they get physical with their target, and peer abuse is another term given to bullying when it occurs in school† (Sanders & Phye, pp. 159-161). On the other hand, the other form is cyber-bullying, which has become very common after expansion and introduction of internet at every home, and especially after involvement of children in social networking websites, such as Facebook that allows anyone

Identity Theft Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Identity Theft - Research Paper Example As it is, people whose identity are compromised and have been assumed by another can suffer tremendous loses. Once the important information of a certain person is exposed to unscrupulous persons, such information can be used against that person. If the financial information of a certain person is compromised and the identity theft gain access to the person’s bank accounts, credit cards and others, the theft may be able to easily steal the money of that person (Abagnale, 2007). Aside from taking money from their victims, some identity thieves may use the signature or the accounts of their victim to commit crimes either online or offline (Cullen, 2007). A good example of this is when an identity theft uses the signature of another person to perpetuate fraudulent transactions either online or offline. By use the identity of the victim, the identity thief may be able to get away with the crime and his or her victim gets into trouble with the authorities. II. How Identity Theft Ca n be Committed Over the years, techno savvy thieves have developed a number of ways to steal important information by breaking into the information security system of companies and individuals. ... tity thief’s operation depends on the kind of strategies and mechanisms that he or she employs to get the necessary information to usurp the identity of another. In recent years, social engineering have become one of the most potent tools used by identity thieves to gain access to buildings, databases and computer systems across the country (Hadnagy, 2010). In this era of social networking when millions of people meet online to make friends or transact business, social engineering becomes one of the easiest methods of defrauding unsuspecting internet users. How does an identity theft make use of social networks to defraud his or her victims? Social engineering employs human psychology so instead of using software and programs to attack the database or the security system of a certain company or individual, the identity theft target the people who have access to the database or the security system (Hadnagy, 2010). The common strategy here is to study the work patterns of the ta rget individual or group of individuals and find strategies to trick these people into divulging passwords and access codes to their system. Social networking sites are often used by these people to befriend their targets and learn whatever they can from these people through trickery and guile. In a sense, social engineering is like stalking a prey and punching when the prey is at its most vulnerable moment. As it is, this method of retrieving information from human sources is a long process so it may take days, weeks or even months before the identity thief actually gets the information that he or she needs. Given this situation most of those people who employ this strategy to gain access to database may need to invest a lot of time on their targets (Hadnagy, 2010; Wilhelm, 2010). Note that

Product Design - analysis of the XBox 360 Essay Example for Free

Product Design analysis of the XBox 360 Essay Introduction: The reason that I have chosen the Xbox as the item to do this project on is because of the following reasons. * It has several add-ons which can be used and are used on a constant basis * I am an Xbox owner myself and know its pros and cons and know a severe amount about it. Along with these reasons the Xbox 360 has an expandable memory for music and photos. On the Xbox you can save games to the hard drive which comes in very handy if your and gets scratched this is how you resolve it without having to buy a new game. The expandable memory on these consoles depends on the type of Xbox bought. For example the elite console has an expandable memory up to 250 GB. This 250 GB is for also watching and recording sky on just like the new sky plus box. You can record movies and keep on your hard drive to watch again and again. Aesthetics: The Xbox aesthetics are different depending on which version you buy. The Arcade and Premium versions of the Xbox 360 are very similar with a smooth rectangular shape with rounded edges and a big circular button in the centre with small green lights surrounding it. One is black (Premium) and one is white (Arcade) in colour with some green and silver areas throughout. The arcade is the cheaper of the two as it doesnt have the same attachments and variety of facilities that the elite has but is more well known as the colour of the Xbox as being white as it is the most often bought. Although they each have a regular colour, people are able to buy any of hundreds of different covers which you can put on easily by yourself. Durability: The Xbox 360 console is not very durable. Beware of letting it fall as it will most definitely smash. Also beware of even letting it tip over as it may not break but it will break whatever game is inside it at the time it falls. This is called laser marks or scratches and is the problem that I had referred to earlier. Although the console cannot survive drops, the controller can survive the occasional drop. Consumer/ Users: The main consumers and users of the Xbox 360 are probably teenagers from about 13- 16. Although these are the most frequent users and buyers of the console, many grown men also buy the console. The Xbox 360 doesnt appeal to most men but some are very keen on it. The users are also nearly always male as not many girls would find the Xbox interesting or even fun to use. Modifications: There are very few modifications that can be made to the Xbox 360. The first modification I would make to the console would be to do with the durability. I would make it so that it would not break with a slight fall. Another modification I would make would be to the heat given off from the console as it gives off an enormous amount. This could be resolved solved by inventing a fan used via a USB port on the back to keep it discreet. Thirdly the weight of the console is colossal weight weighing 3.5 kilograms which makes it highly importable. Safety: The Xbox 360 is extremely safe. It has rounded edges so that it is safe for little children who may hurt themselves. One unsafe feature of the console would be the heat outlet which could burn someone if they put their hand on it or even worse, start a fire if it is left on for too long. Secondly as mentioned before the weight of the console if it were to fall on a small child it would do serious damage or may even kill the child. Ergonomics: The Xbox 360 is designed to stand up straight on a flat surface. It is made to suit this environment. It can also be sat down flat but it takes up a larger surface area. The Xbox 360 controller is shaped perfectly to fit your hands and the headset that comes with it is designed to fit over any shaped or sized head. Also the microphone on the headset comes with an adjustable piee between the ear and the mouth allowing it to be adjusted to reach your mouth. Cost: The Xbox 360 when it first came out about 2 years ago cost around à ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½200 for the arcade version, à ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½250 for premium version and, à ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½320 for the elite version. Since then the prices have come down quite a bit with the current prices at around; à ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½130-140, à ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½190-200, à ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½250-260; depending on where you buy. It is well worth the money and you will get plenty of use out of it. Environment and Location: The Xbox 360 should be held in an open environment away from any water or liquid. It should be located quite high off the ground out of the reach of small children. It should also have room behind it do allow the fan to blow the hot air out without overheating. Size and Weight: The Xbox 360 is not that bid for the amount of components Involved in the making of it. It is around 1 foot tall, about 4 inches thick and around 8 inches wide. It is terribly heavy for a console and very awkward to move. Baroque Art in Europe and North America Essays -- essays research pape

Baroque Art in Europe and North America   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Throughout this research paper the topic is going to be along the lines of the Baroque Art in Europe and North America, which comes from chapter nineteen of our Art History book. The main purpose is to review major ideas and principles in this chapter by writing an analysis of certain points that were highlighted. For example, certain techniques that were used to define the Baroque Art, major sculptures, architectures, and paintings, and also just some general background information about this time period. I decided to write on this subject because when reading the chapters, the Baroque period seemed to catch my attention the most due to the amazing architecture that was built during this time. The Baroque period is understood to be around the time frame of the 1600 to about 1750’s and was greatly supported by the Catholic Church and also by the Popes during this time. According to the History and Appreciation of Art, †The term Baroque is from the Portuguese barroco, which means a ‘misshapen pearl’ and the Baroque was the final phase of the Renaissance or an era distinct from both the Renaissance and the modern era†(History and Appreciation of Art). Baroque is a word that is considered to be a style that emerged in Europe in the late sixteenth century and that last approximately into the eighteenth century. â€Å"Baroque, as a formal style, is characterized by open compositions in which elements are placed or seem to move diagonally in space† (Stokstad pg. 721). Baroque art and for that matter seventeenth century art was known to be more of naturalistic form and used very strong movements of lighting in their paintings, sculptures, and architectures. For instance, â€Å"... Baroque is dynamic with tension between naturalism and classicism. Baroque has very dramatic lighting with strong artificial light and dark. Strong movement exists in the paintings and architecture, both real and unreal† (History and Appreciation of Art). According to our book in regards to the Baroque period taking a naturalistic form, â€Å"The desire for realism was inspired in part by the growing interest in the natural sciences: Biological sciences added to the artists’ knowledge of human and animal anatomy and botany; physics and astronomy changed their concept of space and light† (Stokstad pg.722).   Ã‚  Ã‚  &nbs... ...’. And also the sculptures during Baroque period in Italy and France were tied into the building of the architectures.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In conclusion, the Baroque art in Europe and North America was a time of growth for many of the countries in these areas. We have seen many developments such as the great architecture, sculptures, and paintings that were produced by many artists’. Also, one of the more informative issues that were not known by me and probably many others were the clever was to produce paintings. During this research and analysis of this chapter of the Baroque arts, I certainly have found more insight on the arts of the sixteenth century in Europe and North America. Dekada 70 Essay

For the Philippines, the seventies was more than just a period of shaggy hair, bell-bottom jeans, platform shoes, and disco music. It represented the rise of the conjugal dictatorship of Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos, a U.S.-sponsored regime characterized by military repression and wholesale human rights violations. Conversely, it was also the fecund period for the sociopolitical awakening and involvement of many Filipinos; the humus for the renowned religious-political event, the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution. [2] Dekada 70 journeys with the central character Amanda Bartolome (Vilma Santos), the reticent wife of an alpha-male husband, and the worrying mother of a boisterous all-male brood. Thoroughly relegated to domesticity in a world slathered in testosterone, Amanda begins to undergo a transformation when her family becomes imbricated in the sociopolitical realities brought about by the Marcos dictatorship. The declaration of Martial Law, the lifting of the writ of habeas corpus, the curfews and police searches, all these could have easily floated past Amanda’s head had her sons not found themselves caught in the crossfire between the government and the pro-democracy movements. As one son after another faces the oppressive forces of the dictatorship, Amanda gradually realizes that the personal is political. While chanting slogans for sociopolitical change, she finds her own voice and comes to terms with the fullness of her own person. [3] It is notable that in the film, the divine presence is sublimated in the refusal to acquiesce to societal structures that perpetuate injustice. The characters’ eyes are opened to the dehumanizing impact of such oppressive structures and they join in the prophetic denunciation of what they have identified as ‘not-God.’ This importantly resonates with the praxical imperative associated with theologies of liberation, which configure God as imbricated in the collective protest of the oppressed. Amanda then, in her ‘conversion to justice,’ can be seen as synechdochic of the epiphanous ‘becoming’ of Filipinos as a true people of the eucharist. [4] Based on an awarded novel of the same title, Dekada 70 essays Amanda’s personal and political journey is a patient navigation of each year of the seventies. To director Roňo’s credit, the film has a clear focus and steadily gets to its point through engaging but inobtrusive camerawork. The politically-charged scenes are strident enough to be visually disturbing, yet tempered enough to work on a more psychological level. [5] There are touches of seventies style  Filipino humor that foreign audiences might miss; they effectively establish that this is a real, average Filipino family trying to navigate through the eye of the political storm. The acting is generally impressive, most especially that of lead actress Santos, who gives a luminous, sensitive performance. Santos essays the transformation of Amanda so effectively that we do see clearly at the end of the film that there has been a fundamental change in her character. [6] If there is something to be faulted about the film, it is Roňo’s failure to keep melodramatic moments in check. The funeral sequence of one of Amanda’s sons, for instance, becomes an over-extended session of copious tears. The rich story material of Dekada 70 could do away with such ‘in your face’ paroxysms, which only work to dull the film’s cutting edge political trajectory. [7] Nonetheless, it cannot be denied that Roňo had created a noteworthy, epic-scale Filipino film, and on a Third World budget at that. It also cannot be denied that Roňo had not forgotten the sentence of history on his home country. [8] Neither will Filipino audiences.
